I plan to drive from Lake Charles to the Whitney Plantation in time for my tour at 11AM. The outstanding problem is that they don't allow dogs, even on the grounds. I understand this policy, as people are only allowed in via guided tours, and dogs would probably be disruptive, even while outside. So I am looking for a dog sitter to walk, play with, supervise Toro while I am on the tour. Optimally they would meet me at the Plantation. I'm devoutly hoping to find someone via Facebook request, blegs on the pet-friendly Balloon Juice blog, or via care.com, which I am not overly thrilled by but which might work. All suggestions or recommendations gratefully accepted.
I've roughed out the rest of my trip: Day 8 stop around Prichard, AL; Day 9 stop near Atlanta; Day 10 stop near Greenville, SC and Day 11 I arrive at Richmond (April 7, the day before Mae's birthday!) More route posts to follow.
I read the comment you posted on Balloon Juice and I have one thought that might help you. Many Petsmart stores have instore pet hotels and day camps. While day camp doesn't sound appropriate if your dog doesn't like other dogs, it is possible that you could board him for a short time at a store with a pet hotel. You might want to call your closest Petsmart with a pet hotel and check out with them what the requirements are, how you would go about getting him into the pet hotel at your destination, etc. Good Luck.
